Position Overview:

The Civil Design Engineer will work on a team that designs commercial and residential projects. The Company is seeking a Professional Engineer with existing knowledge in servicing land development clients.  This position will lead and work on small teams of EITs and Designers, acting as a supervisor and Senior Project Manager.  The Civil Engineer will have direct responsibility for overseeing the planning, design, permitting and construction administration for commercial developments, residential subdivisions, and multi-family developments including: Site layout, Utility Routing, paving and grading, erosion control, roadway design, drainage, water lines, sanitary/storm sewers design, Storm water pollution prevention Plans and other civil design elements.

Essential Duties:

  • Evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures and criteria, using judgment in making some substantial engineering adaptations and modifications to assigned projects
  • Serves as a technical consultant concerning facilities planning, design, construction and/or maintenance for different categories of facilities; determine resources and perform long-range planning
  • QA/QC – Reviews consultant-prepared design drawings, indicating basic design corrections, prepare technical specifications, review engineering plans for compliance with numerous regulatory acts
  • Analyzing and designing utility, grading, paving, and drainage infrastructure
  • Coordinating project design with outside consultants and architects
  • Preparing quantity takeoffs, cost estimates, and bid specifications
  • Performing site visits to verify field conditions and monitor construction
  • Preparing site investigation and development feasibility reports
  • Resolve design conflicts; perform accountability reviews
  • Maintaining project documentation
  • Develop project scopes and schedules
  • Prepares civil detailing for construction drawings
  • Prepares written reports
  • Compiling job specs and supervising tendering procedures
  • Resolving design and development problems for clients
  • Managing budget resources for the project to run smoothly for on-time completions
  • Assess employee performance
  • Assist in bid solicitations & proposals

Qualifications/Experience:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in civil engineering
  • Professional Engineering P.E. license in the state of Missouri
  • Minimum 2 years of commercial or residential land development experience including development of lot layouts, master planning, platting and site grading with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Familiar with local zoning ordinances, subdivision regulations, and other design criteria to independently formulate and present specific practical solutions to project design problems
  • Strong Project Management Skills with the ability to work on several projects concurrently
  • Ability to efficiently utilize time in executing assigned tasks accurately, on schedule, and within the budget
  • Strong mathematics and numerical reasoning skills
  • Able to effectively work as an individual contributor or lead a team
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving aptitude and analytical abilities
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Advanced computer skills with fluency in: Microsoft Office Suite
  • High-drive, energetic, positive, strong personal initiative, and sense of urgency / Growth-mindset personality
  • Superior internal and external communication skills with a demonstrated ability to break down and relay complex issues, effective presentation of numeric data, and the ability to connect with individuals at all levels of the organization

Preferred:

  • Master’s Degree in engineering, engineering management or business administration
  • 5+ years’ experience
