General Job Description

This role is responsible for independently delivering mechanical engineering services from conceptual design through construction completion. The position involves leading HVAC design for small to medium-sized projects while ensuring quality, compliance, and coordination across teams.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Complete project planning, coordination, and execution with some oversight

  • Independently manage HVAC conceptual design through construction drawing development

  • Create designs certified to meet Building Codes, Energy Codes, and LEED standards

  • Perform HVAC load calculations, and design equipment, ductwork, and piping layouts

  • Apply principles of psychrometrics, refrigeration, acoustics, and control systems in design

  • Engage engineering leads or managers when necessary in project-related decisions

  • Coordinate project designs with internal departments (Project Management, Construction, Service, Controls) and trade partners

  • Conduct economic and energy performance analyses

  • Support field engineering efforts including trade coordination, scheduling, documentation, and troubleshooting

  • Maintain responsibility for the quality and accuracy of design drawings and models

  • Communicate effectively and professionally with internal teams and external stakeholders

  • Oversee junior designers or team members, as requested

  • Ensure compliance with internal engineering standards and design execution processes

  • Additional duties as assigned by management


Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management

  • PE license highly desirable but not required (must be able to obtain in near future)

  • Minimum 3 years of experience with a mechanical design/build contractor or consulting firm

  • Solid understanding of mechanical system applications and design principles

  • Knowledge of building codes, industry standards, and HVAC best practices

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly lift/move up to 10 lbs; occasionally up to 20 lbs

  • Must maintain dependable attendance


Schedule

  • Monday through Friday

  • Start between 7:00–8:00 AM, end between 4:00–5:00 PM

  • Includes 1-hour lunch and two rest breaks

  • Occasional overtime may be required based on project demand
