General Job Description

This position is responsible for independently delivering engineering services from conceptual design through construction completion for HVAC systems on large, complex commercial projects.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Lead comprehensive project planning, coordination, and execution with expert-level autonomy

  • Independently develop HVAC system designs from concept through final construction documents

  • Ensure designs comply with all applicable Building Codes, Energy Codes, and LEED standards

  • Perform and review HVAC calculations, and design layouts for equipment, ductwork, and piping

  • Apply advanced engineering principles in psychometrics, refrigeration, acoustics, and controls systems

  • Collaborate proactively with Project Management, Construction, Service departments, Controls, and trade partners

  • Conduct thorough energy and economic analyses for system optimization

  • Support field engineering activities including troubleshooting, trade coordination, and scheduling

  • Ensure the highest quality in HVAC design deliverables, including drawings and BIM models

  • Manage project timelines and deadlines effectively

  • Supervise and mentor junior design staff, as assigned

  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of internal engineering standards and project execution processes

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management


Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management

  • PE license highly preferred (or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe)

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience with a mechanical design/build contractor or HVAC consulting firm

  • Deep understanding of mechanical engineering principles and HVAC systems design

  • Familiarity with national Building Codes, mechanical design standards, and compliance requirements

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and Revit; familiarity with BIM coordination tools is a plus

  • Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills

  • Ability to lead and collaborate effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift/move up to 10 lbs regularly and up to 20 lbs occasionally

  • Must have visual acuity for close and distance work (e.g., reading drawings and screens)

  • Ability to hear and respond to verbal instructions or telephone communications

  • Frequent sitting, walking, standing, and manual dexterity required

  • Must maintain dependable attendance and punctuality


Schedule

  • Monday–Friday

  • Workday generally begins between 7:00–8:00 AM and ends between 4:00–5:00 PM

  • Includes a 1-hour lunch break and two rest breaks

  • Occasional overtime may be required based on business needs
