SUMMARY STATEMENT
Research, plans, designs, and administers building projects for internal and external clients. Applies knowledge of design, construction procedures, zoning, building codes, and building materials. Consults with clients to determine functional, spatial, and other requirements of new structures or renovations. Prepares information regarding the design, specifications, materials, color, and design/permitting schedules. Work is performed under the supervision and direction of the Director of Design and Engineering, and other project stakeholders. Considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.
JOB DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Lead design personnel in the creation and completion of design related tasks/projects
- Participate in sales and marketing efforts for the development of new business
- Participate in the presentation of proposals, budgets, etc., to clients
- Ensure design integrity and standards are maintained by reviewing and checking drawings
- Collaborate with Program Management, Estimating, and Operations departments to ensure design intent corresponds to the client’s needs
- Coordinate complex commercial and industrial projects from beginning to completion including record drawings
- Study, research and interpret design criteria per local, national, and international jurisdiction
- Work with AHJ’s including ADA, Fire, City, County, State and Federal Agencies to provide direction to the project team
- Research easements, rights?of?way, addresses, lot sizes and drainage
- Identify options and create analysis breakdown based on technical complexity
- Assist with obtaining building, occupancy, and temporary permits
- Solicit subconsultant proposals, prepare design budgets, and draft design subcontracts
- Manage change orders, approve payments, and prepare periodic cost reports, project projections, and percentage complete reports
- Prepare and disseminate weekly reports for active projects through ProCore
- Run weekly design meetings with subcontractor designers during the design phase of the project
- Plan and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a timely, thorough, and professional manner
- Conduct periodic on-site observation of work during construction to monitor compliance with construction documents
- Travel to proposed job sites, as necessary, to identify site conditions/requirements
- Attend meetings, conferences, workshops, training sessions and review publications to remain current on principles, practices, and new developments
- Interface with subcontractors to provide bid assistance, design assistance, value engineering studies, constructability review and project schedule analysis
- Participate in the hiring, mentoring, training, and growth of design staff and team
- Support development plans to drive employee growth and development
QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.A. of Architecture or B.S. Engineering preferred
- A degree in design or design engineering or a similar discipline, such as civil, mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering
- 6-10 years Computer Aided Design experience
- A degree in design or design engineering or a similar discipline, such as civil, mechanical, electrical or chemical engineering
- Minimum of 7 years of project-related experience
- Excellent computer skills including but not limited to Revit, AutoCAD, Windows, Outlook, Excel, MS Word. Sketch-up, Photo Shop or equivalent preferred
- Well versed in scheduling and MS Project
- Extensive knowledge and practical application of regulatory codes, including IBC, IFC, NFPA, Energy and ADA
- Maintain confidentiality as required
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- English – able to communicate well using both technical and non-technical language, read and understand thoroughly
- Able to travel via air and ground
- Willing to work extended workdays and workweeks as needed to accomplish the job
JOB MAY REQUIRE:
- Able to navigate work sites and office facilities
- Bending/stooping, squatting, reaching above shoulders, kneeling and twisting
- Ascending/descending stairs
- Ascending to and descending from heights up to or over 100′ by use of permanent or temporary stairs, ladders, aerial lifts or use of personnel hoists
- Some lifting of various weights and sizes (up to 30 lbs.)
- May involve lifting above shoulders
- Vision abilities include close and peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
- Repetitive motion (to include, but not limited to) standing and/or sitting for extended periods, working at a computer and typing for long periods
- Wearing of required Personal Protective Equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, work boots. gloves, etc.)
