Position Overview
An engineering consulting firm is seeking a Mechanical Designer II to support the design and development of mechanical and plumbing systems for a wide variety of construction projects including commercial, residential, industrial, institutional, and healthcare facilities.
This role will work closely with engineering and project teams to prepare construction documents, perform system design analysis, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and provide support throughout the construction administration process. The ideal candidate is a motivated and detail-oriented professional who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and is capable of working independently while mentoring junior designers.
This is an in-office position with occasional travel to project sites as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and prepare engineering and construction installation documents under the guidance of engineers and senior designers
- Perform drafting and modeling of mechanical and plumbing systems using Revit and/or AutoCAD
- Design HVAC, hydronic, plumbing, sanitary drainage, domestic water, and fuel gas systems
- Perform engineering calculations including:
- Heating and cooling load calculations
- Plumbing load calculations
- Energy modeling
- Life-cycle cost analysis
- Energy code compliance verification
- Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to support complete project designs
- Prepare and edit project specifications for mechanical and plumbing systems
- Produce code-compliant construction documents for permitting, bidding, and construction
- Support construction administration activities including:
- Field inspections
- Submittal reviews
- RFI responses
- As-built documentation
- Project closeout support
- Assist Project Managers with proposal preparation, project scopes, scheduling, and business development activities
- Mentor and support junior designers

Ideal Candidate Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering required
- Minimum 4 years of professional experience in mechanical and plumbing system design
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- Strong understanding of applicable building codes and industry standards including:
- International Building Code (IBC)
- IAPMO codes and standards
- ASHRAE standards
- Proficiency with Revit and/or AutoCAD required
- Experience with Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams
- Self-motivated with strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities
