Position Overview:

A Professional Land Surveyor at this company will perform all of the functions of a Professional Land Surveyor. The successful candidate will use their knowledge, skills, and creativity to manage the Survey Department for an industry leading firm. In addition to scoping work the PLS will maintain oversight for multiple projects, update and maintaining schedules, oversee budget adherence, and build strong relationships with clients. If you are a Professional Land Surveyor but, are not licensed in Missouri but, have an interest in the position and meet the requirements to test for licensure in Missouri, you should still apply.

Essential Duties:

Overall

  • Direct and manage Survey Department operations to include: preparation of all data, charts, plots, maps, records, and documents related to surveys
  • Verify, the accuracy of survey data including measurements and calculations conducted at survey sites
  • Sign and seal all survey plans that have been prepared and calculated
  • Perform ALTA/ACSM Land Title Surveys, Plat of Highways, Route
  • Direct and oversee Surveys, Topographic Surveys, Construction Staking and Transportation projects
  • Maintain and adhere to QA/QC procedures/note taking and maintaining office and field project material
  • Follow instructions/work orders from engineer’s and project managers
  • Proficiency with Trimble and Leica GPS, Trimble Robotic Total Station (S6), Trimble (TSC3) and TDS Ranger Data Collectors
  • Understand construction layout, ability to read and comprehend construction plans
  • Ability to organize field notes and execute field staking
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions
  • Search legal and survey records, as well as land titles to obtain information about property boundaries in areas to be surveyed at recorders offices and other government entities
  • Write legal descriptions of property boundary surveys for use in deeds, leases, or other legal documents
  • Calculate heights, depths, relative positions, property lines, and other characteristics of terrain
  • Prepare and maintains sketches, maps, reports, and legal descriptions of surveys to describe, certify, and assume liability for work performed
  • Compute geodetic measurements and interprets survey data to determine positions, shapes, and elevations of geomorphic and topographic features
  • Determine longitudes and latitudes of important features and boundaries in survey areas using theodolites, transits, levels, and satellite-based global positioning systems
  • Execute administrative tasks: timesheets, GPS logs, mileage logs, trucks and equipment
  • Assess employee performance
  • Assist in bid solicitations & proposals
Qualifications/Experience:
  • Required:

  • Technical degree in drafting, engineering or architectural technology, construction and 2-3 years’ experience as a Professional Land Surveyor Licensed in the state of Missouri
  • Or
  • 5-6 years’ experience as a Professional Land Surveyor licensed in Missouri without a degree
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Strong mathematics and numerical reasoning skills
  • Able to effectively lead a team
  • Must be able to handle multiple projects and reports simultaneously
  • Strong critical thinking, problem solving aptitude and analytical abilities
  • Outstanding organizational skills
  • Advanced computer skills with fluency in: Microsoft Office Suite
  • High-drive, energetic, positive, strong personal initiative, and sense of urgency / Growth-mindset personality
  • Superior internal and external communication skills with a demonstrated ability to break down and relay complex issues, effective presentation of numeric data, and the ability to connect with individuals at all levels of the organization
  • Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, geospatial information systems or similar
  • Knowledge of local and state building codes and regulations
  • Prior management/leadership skills with the ability to navigate complex interpersonal relationships
