Position Summary
The Director of Civil Engineering Design Services is a senior leadership role responsible for the technical oversight and strategic direction of a multidisciplinary civil engineering practice, with a primary focus on roadway and transportation design. This position oversees multiple engineering disciplines and plays a key role in project delivery, staff development, quality control, and business development.
The practice includes civil, roadway, bridge, traffic, water, and environmental engineering services and supports both public and private sector clients. The Director will collaborate closely with discipline leaders, project managers, and client stakeholders to ensure technical excellence, regulatory compliance, and high-quality project outcomes.
Key Responsibilities

Provide technical leadership and guidance for roadway design and related civil engineering projects

Perform and oversee QA/QC reviews to ensure compliance with agency standards and internal procedures

Support and mentor discipline leaders and technical staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment

Oversee development of technical deliverables for infrastructure projects, including highways, roadways, bridges, water, sewer, and site design

Represent the organization with municipal and state agencies, developers, and other stakeholders on technical and administrative matters

Support Project Managers and Discipline Leads in client-facing communications, including presentation of complex technical solutions

Maintain and enforce quality control processes and documentation

Participate in technical proposals and business development efforts

Provide input on staffing levels, engineering budgets, cost estimates, and schedules

Stay current on local laws, regulatory updates, and agency requirements

Perform other responsibilities appropriate for a senior leadership role
Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required
-
Active New York State PE license required
-
Strong familiarity with NYC and NYS agency standards

Required local New York City project experience
-
Proven ability to supervise staff, direct work, and perform QA/QC
-
Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
-
Strong leadership, analytical, and decision-making abilities
