Position Summary

The Revenue Accounting Manager is responsible for leading and managing the revenue accounting and billing function within a project-based professional services environment. This role oversees client invoicing, project accounting records, and revenue-related general ledger activity to ensure accuracy, compliance with contract terms, and timely cash flow. The position also provides leadership, coaching, and oversight to revenue accounting staff.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Revenue Accounting team, including coaching, training, and performance support

  • Prepare and review client invoices and related general ledger transactions

  • Ensure invoicing is completed accurately and in accordance with contract requirements

  • Maintain all invoicing records and project accounting files used as financial and legal references

  • Review and enter contract details into the billing system

  • Ensure the integrity, accuracy, and completeness of billing system data

  • Monitor department milestones and ensure goals are met in alignment with company guidelines

  • Research and resolve billing discrepancies, invoice rejections, and re-invoicing issues

  • Reconcile project records to the accounting database

  • Assist with accounts receivable research and resolution as assigned

  • Manage consultant purchase orders related to projects, including proper cost distribution

  • Maintain communication with client payables departments

  • Analyze accounting records to assess project profitability and resource utilization

  • Provide guidance on project setup, budgeting, invoicing, and financial controls

  • Participate in preparation of annual audit schedules

  • Perform additional accounting or administrative tasks as assigned by department leadership

Qualifications & Skills

  • Proven experience managing a billing, revenue, or accounting function

  • Knowledge of accounts receivable and accounts payable processes

  • Experience with Deltek or similar project-based accounting systems preferred

  • Strong understanding of:

    • Project accounting

    • Financial statement accounting

    • Project profitability analysis

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook

  • High level of discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Strong organizational, analytical, and attention-to-detail skills

  • Excellent interpersonal, supervisory, and communication abilities

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

  • Professional judgment and problem-solving skills
