Position Summary

Responsible for the overall execution and performance of construction projects. Key responsibilities include Project Administration, Financial Performance, Schedule Performance, Risk Management, Relationship Management, Team Member Development, and Collaboration with other business unit leaders.

This position oversees the success of multiple projects or a single large, complex project and plays a key role in planning, design, and execution. The ideal candidate has a proven track record leading teams, developing proposal strategies, and ensuring projects are delivered safely, profitably, and on schedule.


Key Responsibilities

Project Administration

  • Lead all project startup meetings, ensuring participation from all relevant departments and support teams.

  • Track and manage project action items to ensure timely completion.

  • Conduct regular site visits to evaluate safety, schedule, cost performance, and team synergy.

  • Review Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for accuracy and ensure corrective actions are implemented when needed.


Financial Performance

  • Monitor project budgets and costs, identifying issues early and implementing corrective actions.

  • Develop and oversee project-specific execution strategies aligned with company goals.

  • Maintain responsibility for overall project profit and loss performance.

  • Supervise procurement and ensure subcontractor change orders and cost adjustments are issued promptly.

  • Review red files and cost reports to ensure accurate and timely financial tracking.


Schedule Performance

  • Ensure project schedules align with contract requirements and execution strategy.

  • Collaborate with project teams to monitor progress, anticipate issues, and implement corrective measures.

  • Document and communicate all schedule delays with appropriate notices and justifications.


Risk Management

  • Ensure all parties understand and comply with contractual terms and obligations.

  • Promote and enforce company safety and quality programs.

  • Develop project-specific risk management plans addressing internal and external risks.

  • Evaluate plan effectiveness and lead corrective actions to mitigate identified risks.

  • Demonstrate a consistent, proactive approach to problem-solving.


Relationship Management

  • Serve as the primary client contact and account manager for assigned projects.

  • Develop and execute relationship management plans for customers, subcontractors, and consultants.

  • Represent company values through professionalism, responsiveness, and respect for all stakeholders.

  • Ensure continuity of workflow in the absence of key project personnel.


Team Member Development

  • Uphold the company’s vision, mission, and core values across all projects.

  • Monitor team dynamics and implement action plans to strengthen performance.

  • Mentor and train Project Executives, Senior Project Managers, and Project Managers.

  • Ensure training and development opportunities for Assistant Project Managers and Project Engineers.


Collaboration

  • Promote a cooperative work environment between operations, design, and field teams.

  • Maintain regular communication with other Business Unit Leaders and Vice Presidents to share best practices.

  • Participate in developing operational standards and processes that drive consistency and excellence across the organization.


Administrative Authority

  • Execute subcontract agreements, purchase orders, and customer change orders in accordance with company policy.

  • Review and approve subcontractor payment releases and insurance compliance.

  • Collaborate with senior leadership on major contractual decisions or high-value change orders.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and extensive experience.

  • Proven experience in design-build and hard-bid project delivery methods.

  • Strong understanding of contract law, financial management, scheduling, and technical construction disciplines.

  • Demonstrated leadership in managing large, complex projects with budgets exceeding $100M–$200M.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
